Microsoft Corp said on Friday a version of its long awaited Windows 7 operating system will be made available from next week. The version, known as a ‘release candidate’, or RC, essentially means the world’s largest software company is in the final stages of completing the operating system, the successor to the unpopular Windows Vista.
Microsoft said the RC will be available for download by program developers and IT professionals subscribing to the MSDN and TechNet networks on April 30 and available more broadly on May 5. The company has still not said when the finished version would begin to be installed on PCs or available to buy in shops, but the company’s chief financial officer said on Thursday it could be as early as July.

2 days back my friend called me and asked- How to be sure if his machine’s motherboard will support ISA NIC card or not? He was not sure how ISA slot (remember!!…….don’t worry it is getting obsolete, not found on newer Motherboards) looks like? I sent him following picture to identify and differentiate various card slots on MB. Just sharing with you if any of you get stuck on this.
Following picture clearly identifies 3 common card slots- ISA, PCI and RAM (I am not going into details of DDR over here)

In today’s scenario, no place in the world is immune to economic crisis. It is only the question, whether you are in an environment stuck ankle-deep, waist-deep or neck-deep, trying to stay afloat in these times. Recession and depression are buzz words these days!
Dubai is in no exception to this. Although, government tries to paint a rosy picture without any credible facts and figures but as a Dubai resident for 5 years, I or for that matter general public can easily make out the truth. Here are some general things which everyone encounters these days-
- Not even a single day passes without hearing of some or other job cuts from local print and electronic media. And there are many ones which do not even appear in the media…..
- Every person knows someone in near circle who has been made redundant.
- TO-LET sign for Apartments/Showrooms/Shops with few numbers is getting common in almost every second block which.
- Almost all landlords have started accepting 4-12 cheques/annum. Earlier 1-3 cheques was a norm in every part of Dubai.
- Hiring has seized almost everywhere, some companies are cutting between 10-30% salaries.
- Most of the announced construction projects have been stalled, delayed or cancelled.
But again, these are testing times everywhere. Best of luck.
On a lighter note-
What is the difference between recession and depression?
If your neighbour looses job it is recession but if you loose your job it is depression.

After construction and real estate sector, now hospitality & tourism sector is going to feel the heat of economic downturn in Dubai. Today, luxurious Atlantis Hotel has made official that they are cutting 70 jobs about 4.4% of their existing staff of 1600. Jumeirah group manging Emirates tower, Burj Al Arab and some other famous hotels is also planning to cut jobs in the name of restructuring. Here is the complete article on ArabianBusiness.com.

I was just digging up Youtube for something while I came across this excellent documentary. This gives an inside look of basic computer concepts, Boolean algebra, how computers used to look and work in 1969 and what Britishers used to think about Computers way back a generation away. It is a 3 part video- Worth watch! I am sure you will enjoy watching this.

If you are using email then probably SPAM word should not be new for you. Whether technically you are aware of it or not but you are getting spam emails almost daily, infact several times of the day. Thanks to all those spam guards employed by most of email service providers, enterprises (if you are using company email) and some ISP’s which block most of these unwanted nuisance emails otherwise we would be lost in the email world. Just guess in percentage how much spam actually flows on internet……30%,40%…???
Now see actual statistics-
According to a report by www.viruslist.com about 70-80%……yes 70-80% of the email traffic flowing on internet is actually spam. It means every 7-8 emails out of 10 emails are spam mails. Just think about the wastage of internet bandwidth!
